about

It's FINALLY HERE... My dad's favorite GT band song! :D

One of my favorite quotes since I was a teenager has been this one by Eleanor Roosevelt: “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

I wrote Ghost Town in 2021 when I had moved back to Michigan after being gone for almost 4 years. I never thought I would live in Michigan again when I left for Nashville in 2016 but life has a way of bringing you back to places (I believe) so that you can fully face and hopefully heal your trauma and wounds that maybe would have never come back up had you not gone back.

For me when I moved back, I found myself falling back into old habits I thought I had "kicked to the curb." I had to face so many different iterations of myself that I hadn't had to face in a long time. I had an entirely different belief system moving back then when I had left and I was having a hard time reconciling who I was versus who I am. What I use to believe versus what I believe now.

Thus, Ghost Town was born.

This song is a reminder to myself that no matter what I do in life... nothing can touch my soul without my consent or permission, just as Eleanor so blatantly said.

This ones for you, OG GT! <3

lyrics

In this ghost town
I feel your presence lurk around
Tumbleweeds roll
In this dessert where I was drowned, yeah
My spirit said hey girl
You go back they’ll take your crown
Devil called my name
I'm not one too backdown

oh no can't be keeping me at bay

Who knows where the wild wind blows
It could surely knock you out
Til all you’ve got is skin and bones
And the dust that coats this town
I keep my thorns so you don’t choke me out
Only I can set me free
Straight and narrow is no good for me
I will always be
This wild rose

I fumble through this place
Like a child that misbehaves
Six feet underground
Did the lost ones find their way, yeah
Spirit said hey girl
Your soul keeps you awake
Freedom called my name
Ain’t no roots left in this grave

oh no can't be keeping me at bay

Who knows where the wild wind blows
It could surely knock you out
Til all you’ve got is skin and bones
And the dust that coats this town
I keep my thorns so you don’t choke me out
Only I can set me free
Straight and narrow is no good for me
I will always be
This wild rose

You can't you can't keep my soul
I'm a wild rose
You cant you can't keep my soul, yeah
You cant you can't keep my soul
I'm a wild rose
You can't you can't keep my soul
I'm a wild rose
You can't keep my soul
